Our Process
What is lacquer?
Lacquer is a varnish that is often used on wood to create a high-gloss, extremely durable finish. It is primarily made up of a combination of nitrocellulose and pigments, mixed as a solvent. It is easy to clean and has a hard coating that protects against dirt, oils, and liquids. Although there are a number of ways to “lacquer” furniture today, we have realized that the best option for us is to use a water-based 2K polyurethane and hardener combined with multiple coatings of clear. We offer semi-gloss and high-gloss finishes for the most exceptional finish that our customers expect.
How We Lacquer Furniture:
We have a detailed, comprehensive process for all of our furniture pieces - both raw/custom and ready-to-ship. Everything is first cleaned and wiped down with a mild cleaning solution. So many of our vintage pieces are pre-loved, and we do the best of our ability to fill in any cracks and scratches to bring each piece back to its original splendor. We completely strip the original finish; complete deep sanding down to the original wood; prime, lacquer, and then seal and cure with a final coating(s) of high gloss finish. We may actually sand between coats of primer, as well as between coats of lacquer ~ we do this in order to ensure the smoothest finish possible. The process takes an average of 7-8 weeks to be completed, and you will be notified when your piece has been completed and ready to ship.
Available
“Raw” Furniture is available to customize with our wide selection of paint color options and hardware selection. Select your lacquer color in the notes section upon check out. If you have a custom color you’d like to have your furniture painted, please mention that in the check out section. Our professional lacquer process utilizes a high gloss finish in order to provide an enhanced, fresh look for each piece. Any vintage or antique piece of furniture is pre-loved ~ 50-70+ years in age. Many of these vintage pieces have minor imperfections, and we strive to the best of our ability to fill in any cracks and scratches prior to painting in order ensure a smooth, clean finish and bring these pieces back to their original splendor. The beauty, though, is that some of the finest American-made furniture including Brohill, Henry Link, Henredon, Dixie, American of Martinville, Thomasville, and so many others reveal great bones ~ beautiful dovetailed joints, wood glides, incredibly high quality original wood, heavy and solid furniture from that era.
Please keep in mind, all sales are final and vintage and hand painted items will always have minor perfections.
Shipping
Once your piece has been completed, you will be contacted with approximate shipping and delivery timeframes. If you plan to be out of town and unavailable to accept your piece, it is imperative you notify us immediately so that we can communicate with the shipper and adjust any shipping and delivery dates. We use small business shippers throughout our White Glove Delivery network in order that they be delivered with care to your home. They have a strict schedule they work with and usually have other retailers and customers to accommodate. Any substantial rescheduling can result in added fees.
Completion Time for Raw/Customized Furniture
Please allow 6-8 weeks for your raw furniture to be custom lacquered and an additional 2 weeks to be shipped. Our process allows for many hours of prep work, labor, and paint, as well as allowing the paint to cure. Once the paint has completely cured, we schedule shipping.

Any Ready-To-Ship Furniture, Art & Decor will ship approximately 3-7 business days once purchased. Again, please allow the actual delivery process to be completed within 5-14 days. Local pick-ups and deliveries are handled expeditiously.
